Triple West Medical have been appointed by a prestigious NHS Trust based in the East Midlands to help recruit a Consultant Vascular Surgeon for a substantive basis but they would also consider a NHS 12 month min Fixed Term Contract.
The Trust is one of the largest employers in the area and are on an exciting journey. With over 15,000 staff, they provide a range of national and international specialists services and are at the forefront of new procedures and research programmes. The Trust is going through an exciting period with a major new capital build redevelopment programme.
The successful candidate will work within the vascular department with the general goal of supporting service delivery to achieve targets in outpatients, inpatients, reduce the waiting list and be part of the vascular on-call emergency rota. More specifically, it is essential that the successful candidate also possess the necessary skillset and training portfolio to deliver high quality vascular management of patients. All consultants will have additional activity in their timetables for doubling up in theatre, this will result in at least one extra list per month.
The Vascular department is the regional vascular tertiary referral unit. In addition to being a hub for complex elective vascular referrals, they also deal with a substantial load of the regional vascular emergencies. The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate competencies in dealing with the workload, which includes endovascular aneurysm repair and peripheral endovascular skills.
The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate a commitment to promoting evidence-based practice, audit and support for the departmental research projects. The ability to work as a team member and engagement in the multidisciplinary approach in the department is absolutely essential.
Clinical Duties:
- A full range of vascular emergency and elective patients are admitted to the NHS Trust and the appointee will be responsible for the management of those patients admitted under his/her care.
- The vascular team also support the regional Major Trauma with vascular trauma cases when on call
- Provision with Consultant colleagues of a comprehensive elective and emergency Vascular service
- Provision of reciprocal cover for periods of leave
- Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge and the proper functioning of the department
- Each consultant is expected to take an active role in clinical governance activities including (but not restricted to) clinical audit, incident reporting, review of complaints, risk management, CPD and Evidence-Based Practice. Each directorate has a Consultant Clinical Governance lead
