We have been assigned by one of the UK's more prestigious NHS Trusts to help them recruit a Consultant in Haematology on either a Substantive or an NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months to join their successful Haematology department.
Our client's haematology team is made up of a wide range of enthusiastic and passionate individuals which includes 7 consultants, 3 specialist registrars, 1 specialty doctor, 3 clinical nurse specialists, two Advanced Clinical Practitioners and a Physician's Associate providing clinical and laboratory haematology services across Trust. This appointment is a replacement post joining this well-established team. The Trust is an allied teaching hospital and offers the potential for honorary academic positions and sub speciality interests including transfusion. Haematology in-patient care is centralized onto the main site and operates a British Committee for Standards (BCSH) in Haematology level 3 service; it has JACIE accreditation under the umbrella of the Yorkshire Regional Bone Marrow Transplant programme. Haematology is supported by the large Trust Research Team with dedicated haematology staff who attend the weekly MDT and ward rounds. There are over 20 active haematology trials at present. There are outpatient clinics held on all three hospital sites supported by chemotherapy day units. The Laboratory services have full CPA, HTA and MHRA accreditation
The department have asked the appointee to fulfil responsibilities such as: will provide general Haematology OPD clinics, support to the chemotherapy day case units and in-patient ward. The post-holder will be expected to join the trust intra-thecal chemotherapy register and help deliver intra-thecal treatments, post holder will be required to attend the other hospital sites to support out- patient clinics, day case work and on occasions other duties as requested by senior colleagues. There will be the opportunity to develop sub-specialty areas according to the experience and interests of individuals, They're happy to accommodate other sub-specialist interests, Their will be mentorship provided from a senior member of the team within the department, The post holder will share responsibility with colleagues for the supervision and training of junior medical staff and supporting the laboratory haematology service. This will include blood film and bone marrow reporting, support to the BMS led anticoagulation dosing service and blood transfusion dept. There is a monthly transplant meeting and clinic with representation from the Leeds NHSBT and the regional Transplant Director, which the post holder will have the opportunity to attend & assisting with Clinical governance and audit duties.
