I have been assigned by an NHS Trust in the UK to help them recruit a Specialty Doctor in Stroke Medicine on either a Substantive or an NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months.

The successful appointee will be enthusiastic an committed to delivering excellent Stroke care and based at the main site and will work for the 3 Consultants in Stroke Medicine in a team of 4 ST3+ equivalent, 5 ST1/2 equivalents, 1 FY1, and 1 Physician Associate,
Our clients Stroke Service currently has 36 beds for patients in the first 7 days of acute stroke care, including 6 HASU beds in development. The unit accepts referrals directly from the Emergency Department and other sources. Patients are under the care of the Stroke Consultants whilst they are on HASU/ASU. Thrombolysis is available 24/7 with out of hours cover via the Regional Surrey Stroke Network. There is a robust Thrombectomy pathway with St George's hospital, London. CT angiography is an integral part of stroke imaging 24/7 together with CT brain imaging as part of the stroke work up and the thrombectomy pathway
Most of the patients have acute ischaemic strokes or intracerebral haemorrhages. There be will few patients with TIA's and stroke mimics. A vast amount of radiological and clinical experience can be gained, including medical procedures such as LP. There are 7 day TIA clinics run by the Stroke Physicians and on weekends with the support of Doctors from Acute Medicine on the Kingsfold day unit. There may be opportunities to attend the Stroke clinics which run twice a week. Senior support is always available from the Stroke Consultants within working hours and out of hours by the Stroke Consultants on call via telemedicine. Specialty doctors will take active part in educational activities and audit and research in the department. There is a monthly Stroke Governance meeting and monthly Mortality and Morbidity meeting in which Specialty doctors take active roles.
