With over 20,000 members of staff, where you'll be joining a department that offer great flexibility with consultants able to pursue special interests outside emergency care which have included: establishing hospital units abroad; Pre-hospital Emergency Medicine, working at other Trusts & organisations ; medico-legal work and working within the media. Furthermore, this department have made great strides in the education, and have extensive nursing, clinical practitioner and medical programmes established. Their aim is to be recognised for their Excellence in Emergency Medicine education. Our client delivers secondary Haematology care services to a local population across Birmingham, Sutton Coldfield and Solihull, along with tertiary specialised services to the West Midlands region including Level 3 & 4 stem cell transplantation, CAR-T cell therapy, teenage and young adult (TYA) cancer care, apheresis, Comprehensive Haemophilia Centre, specialist integrated haematological malignancy diagnostic service (siHMDS) and a nationally recognised active academic programme; inpatient care is based principally at the QEHB site and there is an additional dedicated Young Persons Unit for TYA care.
The successful appointee will be joining a department, where the appointee will be expected to undertake various duties within the department. These include: The appointee should be experienced in the management of patients with haematological malignancies and general haematology disorders, The appointee will participate in the consultative review and on-call, for the acute hospitals of BHH and GHH and support referrals and the laboratory services for these sites during on-call commitments. This role is supported by the AOS service, middle grade Haematology doctors and a network of ACPs. Expected frequency of on-call is 1:5, There is an integrated Haemato-oncology Clinical MDT, plus monthly quality meetings, educational sessions and mortality and morbidity meetings, the appointee will be expected to participate in 3 clinics per week, The appointee will be expected to provide morphology reporting for blood films on a sessional basis, appointee will be encouraged to participate in the speciality education of undergraduates and postgraduates and allied health professionals. This includes participation in the departmental teaching programme for junior Haematology medical and nursing staff and active participation in the departmental meeting programme & appointee will be required to have annual appraisal and engage in the revalidation process, they must participate in CPD and maintain the relevant skills for discharging their clinical duties and they will be required to play an appropriate part in Clinical Governance and audit of the Haematology department
