We have been assigned by one of the UK's more prestigious NHS Trusts to help them recruit a Consultant in Care of the Elderly on either a Substantive or an NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months to join their successful department.
Our client are the largest Trust in the south-west region and provides medical, surgical, and maternity care for a population of approximately half a million people in various South West areas. It employs more than 9,500 staff, has approximately 1050 inpatient beds and a revenue budget in excess of £540 million. The Trust provides sub regional, regional, and supra regional services in the fields of neurosciences, orthopaedics, pathology, plastic surgery and burns, renal medicine, transplant and urology, vascular surgery, and is the Major Trauma Centre for the West Country. In May 2014 the Trust relocated the majority of its acute services to the Brunel Building, regarded as one of the best hospital facilities in Europe, on the one of the Hospital sites.
Our client moved to a state-of-the art new hospital building in May 2014 and Older People's services are being prioritised to provide a full range of services from acute frailty assessment, a complex care bed-base through to 'transitional' post- acute care. Substantial commitment is made within the trust to cross-divisional working and we provide liaison medical support to support the care of frail older patients admitted to trauma and surgical specialties, whilst also delivering rapid access and movement disorder outpatients services
The successful appointee will be asked to fulfil various duties, such as: The post holder will be responsible for the clinical management of patients under their care, and, in liaison with consultant colleagues, continuity of care when the post holder is absence, Diagnosis and management of older patients presenting to the Trust with a wide range of conditions. Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in liaison with Consultant colleagues, Additional speciality interest time as per candidate (subject to agreement with clinical lead after appointment, e.g. movement disorders, surgical liaison, orthogeriatrics, community,falls, dementia) amounting to approximately 2 clinical sessions, The post holder will be responsible for the professional supervision and management of junior medical staff, The post holder will not necessarily be expected to undertake research however opportunities do exist and encouragement is given to develop collaborative projects with other departments within Trust & the post holder will be required to take part in a Clinical Audit Programme.
