We have been assigned by one of the UK's more prestigious NHS Trusts to help them recruit a Consultant in Emergency Medicine on either a Substantive or an NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months to join their successful A&E department.
Our clients department comprises a fully equipped resuscitation room with three bays, high and low acuity majors treatment areas with nine and ten cubicles respectively, a separate hot area with 6 beds and a separate minors area. There is a purpose built seminar room with a range of modern presentation aids. The department is currently undergoing a rebuild due to be completed in 2022, giving 8 resuscitation bays anda separate children's ED with co-located paediatric assessment area in addition to the current estate. The department has a fully equipped theatre, separate but integral facilities for ENT and Ophthalmic patients and separate examination and waiting rooms for children. The department is well placed with respect to adjacent facilities e.g. main x-ray, main theatres and ITU. The department is well supported by a full range of ‘in-house' specialities including plastics, and is served by a purpose built helipad, recently refurbished. The hospital is a Major Trauma Unit.
The successful appointee will be asked to fulfil various responsibilities within the department, these include: appointee will share with the other Consultants responsibility for the initial care and reception of all patients attending the Emergency Department, continuing responsibility for those patients who remain under the care of the Emergency Department, particular need to monitor the interface from primary to secondary care and to manage the resuscitation admitting areas and transfer of patients to in-patient services, post holder will be expected to develop a close working relationship with consultant colleagues and other relevant healthcare professionals and establish clear lines of communication with them and their teams, providing emergency cover for the absent consultant colleague, it is expected that the consultant(s) providing cover will also provide clinical supervision to junior staff caring for emergency patients, appointee will be expected to participate fully in the departmental Core Trainee and Middle Grade Training programme along with providing situational teaching on the shop floor & be expected participate in the design and completion of audit projects leading to improvements in practice and to contribute to the development of Clinical Quality Standards.
