We have been assigned by one of the UK's more prestigious NHS Trusts to help them recruit a Consultant in Emergency Medicine on either a Substantive or an NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months to join their successful A&E department.
Our clients are one of the largest hospital trusts in England, with three acute hospitals and community sites serving a local population of around 700,000.Their EDs provide innovative and fast paced integrated emergency care to a wide range of patients. It is our inspiration to develop into an academic and research unit in emergency medicine for the area. Each of our EDs offer a full 24 hour emergency service. The Emergency Departments are supported by co-located Urgent Treatment Centres, a 24 hour UTC at the site with a further 7 community UTCs in the region. In total approximately 220,000 patients are seen annually across the Emergency Department.

The Trauma unit at WHH is one of the highest performing units in the UK (TARN data) and is part of the (SELKaM) Trauma Network. They will work with you to shape the ideal job plan upon successful appointment, and review it with you after three months and then annually – so you can keep the perfect fit. We will also provide the essential resources to support you in your duties, including administrative support.
The successful appointee will be asked to fulfil various responsibilities within the department, these include: provide high quality consultant delivered care to patients including clinical leadership and supervision of junior medical staff, ensuring the highest standards of clinical care are provided to all patients attending the ED, be proactive in ensuring that all patients receive rapid assessment, treatment and clinical decision making, whilst ensuring that the Emergency Access Standards are adhered to, ensuring that we deliver safe, high quality care, Whilst on duty in the department the ED consultant will provide highly visible and focussed clinical leadership - working in conjunction with the nurse in charge of the shift and the SpR/specialty doctor lead to ensure that there is effective and timely communication between the clinical team maintaining optimal patient flow, provide teaching and training at undergraduate and postgraduate level and supervise and train the junior and speciality doctors in emergency medicine and emergency nurse practitioners. To be proactive in the care group's clinical governance agenda and take on leadership roles to support continuous learning and improvement, thereby abiding by the clinical and corporate governance policies of the Trust & participate in relevant audit and quality assurance processes.
