We have been assigned by one of the UK's more prestigious NHS Trusts to help them recruit a Specialty Doctor in Paediatrics (CESR Programme) on either a Substantive or an NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months to join their successful Paediatrics department.
Our client's Paediatric department children's ward has eighteen paediatric beds (allowing for social distancing during the coronavirus pandemic). There is also a hot and a cold assessment unit which accepts referrals form GP practices, the Emergency Department and direct access patients. The Children's Unit had 4690 admissions during 2019/20. The Level 1 Neonatal Unit has 10 inpatient beds, 3 of which have the ability to ventilate and stabilise sick term and preterm neonates prior to transfer. The unit provides comprehensive care for neonates from 32 weeks gestation inborn or transferred or repatriated from the local Level 2 and 3 Neonatal Units. In 2019/20 there were 232 admissions to the neonatal unit of whom 26 received intensive care. The department provides an in house teaching programme of weekly junior doctor teaching, weekly case discussions, monthly x ray meetings, morbidity and mortality, audit meetings, safeguarding peer review, and governance. Simulation sessions are also run in the department & the appointee will have a comprehensive induction programme and will be assigned a supervisor to support them in post.
The successful appointee will be asked to fulfil various duties, such as: contributing to an eight person resident on call rota, cover all aspects of acute inpatient care of children and neonates, attending deliveries of sick term and preterm infants on delivery suite and seeing unwell patients in the Emergency Department and resus when required, be required to manage the paediatric ward, assessment unit and level 1 neonatal unit with a junior doctor on a rotational basis., there will be an on call consultant for support, also provide support to the maternity unit attending delivery suite; to provide expertise in neonatal resuscitation and stabilisation and the postnatal ward & support with Clinical Governance and Audit duties.
