We have been assigned by one of the UK's more prestigious NHS Trusts to help them recruit a Consultant in Respiratory Medicine on either a Substantive or an NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months to join their successful Medicine department.
Our client currently are one of the largest university hospitals trusts in the country, joining a department that currently provides a general Respiratory service as well as a number of specialities including thoracoscopy, vasculitis, severe asthma, interstitial and pleural disease. We would welcome applicants with experience in these fields but will also be happy to consider other specialities in order to meet the needs of our patients. Department currently provides a number of community clinics and are currently participating in a city wide redesign of the specialty. The successful appointee would be joining an established team of 12 consultants and a team of highly trained nurses specialising in COPD, severe asthma and lung cancer. The right applicant will be joining us at an exciting time and would gain invaluable experience within a university teaching hospital. With the care group we have nationally recognised expertise in infectious diseases and the regional specialities of vascular, HPB and renal transplant within the trust
The successful appointee will be asked to fulfil various duties within the trust. These will include: providing inpatient care on the Respiratory Unit by taking part in an on ward / off ward rotation and respiratory on call. The appointee will also contribute to general respiratory activity, the bronchoscopy/thoracoscopy rota and will be encouraged to develop subspecialty interests and contribute to research and education. The role will also include delivering educational activities, raising the departmental research profile and actively driving further innovation.
The appointee will also be expected to participate in ongoing research trials and there will be opportunities to become principle investigator for upcoming clinical trials. The appointee may also have the opportunity to develop an EBUS & interventional bronchoscopy service if desired. This list is by no means exhaustive, and other subspecialist interest will also be considered. We will support and encourage sub-specialty interest. There is an opportunity to work with the infectious diseases team and develop respiratory infection services. The appointee will have access to weekly radiology, Respiratory Directorate/ Governance meetings, pleural MDTs and if required, access to the Regional MDT meetings held at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, attended by respiratory physicians, radiologists and thoracic surgeons.
