We have been assigned by one of the UK's more prestigious NHS Trusts to help them recruit a Consultant in Haematology on either a Substantive or an NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months to join their successful Haematology department.
Our client is one of the largest integrated care Trusts in the country bringing together hospital and community services, serving 9,000 staff, including 1,300 doctors and 4,000 nurses and serves a diverse population of approximately 850,000 with a budget of over £640 Million. This Department is a specialist centre for haemoglobin and red cell disorders, operating as the centre for a large Red Cell Network. We also treat a wide range of malignant and benign conditions, including level 2B malignant haematology patients (salvage chemotherapy for lymphoma), with the exception of haemophilia, intensive treatment of acute leukaemia and bone marrow transplantation. We offer a comprehensive nurse-led anticoagulation service and we have an established hospital transfusion service.
The successful appointee will be joining a department of 6 consultant haematologists, 6 trainee doctors; 3 nurse specialists and a highly experienced Transfusion Practitioner.The department have asked the appointee to fulfil responsibilities such as: having a comprehensive training in haematology and will be capable of handling the range of clinical and laboratory haematology problems that occur in the setting on a district general hospital, be encouraged and supported to develop an interest in myeloid disorders and will also lead on immune haematological disorders such as ITP and autoimmune haemolytic anaemia, take on a leadership role in Laboratory Haematology and act as the named Clinical Laboratory Lead, the appointee will be expected to work with other specialities to develop service pathways and guidance related to cancer-associated thrombosis. and to develop the department's research portfolio in non-malignant haematology & will review General Haematology referrals, including two-week wait target referrals. They will be encouraged and supported to develop a specific interest in thrombosis, leading on obstetric haematology matters. They will also be the named lead for patients with immune-related haematological disorders
